The first devlog.
Well here we go! :D
Hey everyone, i'm Rekoware but you can call me just "Reko" ^^ This is the first devlog where I will talk about the idea behind this project, some of my ideas and what you can expect from this! Keep in mind that English is not my native language so I apologize for my mistakes.
First of all let's talk about my name here, "Brickware Games", if it's not obvious already, the "ware" part of it is inspired by my own name, Rekoware (wow) and the Brick part is about the system I plan to make games on, you see I am the kind of person who call the Gameboy "a brick" for fun because it's chonky and heavy, but even if everybody hates the screen, I love every single thing about that system, and I wanted to myself make games for it. So I guess you can translate the name by "Rekoware making Game Boy Games" maybe someday I will expand beyond the GB, who knows maybe the limitations of the console will make me wanna run away from it and I will regret that name but as of now, I am happy to do my silly little games on there, I feel much more creative when I have to work around limitations and challenge myself to achieve my ideas than just "doing it without worrying about anything" I know it sounds strange..
So what is "Project Shoot"? Well it is my first serious project here, of course I made some silly projects for fun on the GB but nothing serious and that's where I wanna start, I have lots of friends telling me to start very small as a first project but I think I forgot to listen to them so it might get more than "small" :p
I'm probably ignorant and don't realize the amount of work it's going to take me, I should probably make a game you can complete in 5 minutes as my first serious project but yeah, I am not like that when I have an idea I want it done properly.
Project Shoot is a shooting game, of course not your typical AAA 3D Ultra HD game since it's on the GB, it uses Point & Click mechanics for the shooting gameplay (I like to call it Click & Shoot) the goal for the final release is to feature a whole story with characters, a world to explore, an original soundtrack, lots of missions and a vast choice of weapons (and I need to find a name for the game once it's done :p). Of course I have a lot of ideas for this project but even if I'm really excited to actually put my ideas into a real thing I have to be extremely careful to not overdo it and ruin my project because after all, it's a GB game, there are things I will have to give up on sadly because it's just can't work. Let's remind ourselves a GB cartridge size is extremely small, we talk about around 8mb.
It's going to take me a while to perfect my game idea, for some people it's going to be a silly simple game probably but for me it's an important project where I am going to acquire a lot of skills over the next few months and years and it definitely means a lot to me. About skills I need to acquire for example, I could talk about my Pixel art skills being pretty low atm so don't be surprised if the game is just shooting at stickmen for a long time before I can actually make the characters I have in mind :p Another example is me not knowing how to make music at all and yet I want a great original soundtrack to fit the vibe, ouch x_x But I am willing to take months or years to perfect it.
It's a very long journey for sure, especially knowing that I have of course a life next to that project and already doing a lot online with streaming and editing videos, but I hope you guys will enjoy seeing this project grow ^^ Currently the project is in EXTREMELY EARLY STAGE like I barely made the mechanics for shooting work so you will have to wait some time before I can show footage but it's looking promising ^^
I will keep you guys updated again very soon, Thanks for reading and have a nice day!
